Backpacking:The First Steps

"Give me one hour of your time and I will give  you my decades  of  trail-tested backpacking experience!"

Dear Backpacker,

Hi, I’m RoadDog, my trail name, and welcome to Backpacking:The First Steps. My goal in writing this book was to create a fast read that would pack each page with my trail-tested knowledge. I have over 25 years of backpacking experience and have recently completed over 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail in three different section hikes. I have also hiked in Canada, Idaho, Oregon, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and scrambled over most of the hundreds of miles of trails throughout the Great Smoky Mountains. I am confident that even if you have never had a backpack on your back, I can turn you into a confident and well informed backpacker within hours.

Testimonials:

"Wow! I wish I would have found this book a long time ago. RoadDog’s book is an extremely informative quick start guide to backpacking. I have been backpacking a few times, and having read a few other books on the subject, this one is by far the best. It’s like he wrote a 100-page book, then condensed it down and kept only the BEST and most USEFUL information. He has incorporated numerous tips for everything you can think of and things you can’t or just haven’t yet. I loved his blister prevention tactics! Why did I never think of that? He also compiled a MUST HAVE checklist for all the backpacking essentials and tells you exactly what he uses on his hikes. A must have book with decades of experience and all for the price of a steak dinner! I highly recommend this book to any aspiring or experienced backpacker/hiker. Hope to see you on the trail someday Roaddog!"

"I loved it!" Your right RoadDog, I literally went to Starbucks and finished the book in under an hour. I grabbed the   checklist and headed off to REI to purchase many of your recommendations.  I am now planning my first week long backpacking trip on a section of the Appalachian trail here in Georgia.  My confidence level and knowledge of backpacking has soared! This book is worth every penny.

"I can't believe how much information you have packed into this book. I have been on one backpacked trip and we forgot more stuff than we remembered. I am confident that the checklist alone is worth the price of the book!"
